Ei8ht: Looks okay but as a 5 issue series I’m always hedging my bets. Medium DH numbers. JLA Harley Cover: I expect some demand for these but this cover is a mess. Teen Titans Harley is a what-was-that? effort as well. Multiversity Director’s Cut: Limited audience. Multiversity Mastermen: Jim Lee art so there’s a built in bump for this one. 150% of what you’re currently selling. Wonder Woman: Donna Troy is back and there will be some renewed interest in WW for a few issues. Small bump. Monster Motors: WTH? Uh, subs only. 2 issues isn’t worth chasing. Robert Heinlein’s Citizens of the Galaxy: Another micro-series and though Heinlein’s name is on it, George RR Martin’s name has been on several lackluster selling projects lately. Few or subs. Bitch Planet #3: No #2 yet – late. So we’ll go low and hope they overship this one as well. Secret Identities: Faerber’s super-heroes have been met with ‘eh’ over the years and though this one looks interesting, I don’t see it landing much traction amid a crowded stand of known heroes. Copperhead numbers for 10% more discount? Not even close. Low to medium numbers. Sparks Nevada: Now with three times the covers. I still don’t think a podcast is going to attract the numbers to make a book successful and I don’t see these covers getting people to look inside. Time Runs Out titles: If Marvel is relaunching  the line, which since titles are hitting those tough-to-sell double digits signaling it’s time, these will have some back issue interest. As more info breaks we should be able to move through...

Free Comic Book Day Edition

Free Comic Book Day Disclaimer: All comments are based on what my stores ordered and may not reflect everything offered by the publisher. Then again, if 5 stores didn’t order it, it’s likely not something that’s going to affect the world as we know it anyways. Dark Circle: C. I like Archie despite them not being able to publish their best-selling book (Afterlife) in anything resembling a timely fashion. I see this as a lot of things that DF would be giddy to have, which is not a good thing. So-so effort on average comics. Bongo: C+. Simpsons sells about like Simpsons. Multiple years of FCBD Simpson’s offerings hasn’t moved the needle but it’s good family fare for a quarter. Boom Anniversary: B. Wasting space for Mouse Guard again this year when they published a total of one book (Baldwin HC) in 2014 is silly. But the rest of the book looks solid and should appeal to the average walk-in curiosity seeker. 29 cents but 48 pages so we’ll forgive them. Dark Horse: C+. Fight Club has a following but Goon and Strain have suffered this past year, searching for sales. Okay book that might attract the movie audience. DC Comics Gold Book: A. This will be big. The cover will likely be revealed at the Roadshows if not before. Bob’s Burgers: D-. Bob’s Burgers #1 sold well. #2 did pretty well. #3 was okay. By #5 we were having a difficult time convincing anyone they wanted this book. And now we need a FCBD edition? A FCBD edition of the Best Of of a 5-issue mini-series? Minimum order....

Dark Horse Presents: Original Hellboy story. This hasn’t given us a lot of bumps in the past beyond a couple copies due to the anthology format. Batgirl: Harley variant is better than the regular cover.  50/50 split. Harley Quinn Valentines Day Special: Should sell just like Harley. Diamond Island: I don’t get how IDW can present a 29.95 OGN with 164 pages with no preview and expect orders.  Won’t be getting any from here. Galaxy Quest: No info on #1 so placeholder on #2. Millennium: No info on #1 here either.  Thanks IDW. TMNT Mutanimals: Returnable at 100% of TMNT 40.  Gallery suggests that this will sell at 80% of TMNT but that extra 20%puts the ball in IDW’s court. Bang Tango: Gallery passed. Bitch Planet #1 2nd Print: With the massive overship does anyone really need this? Empty #1: The Gallery is unimpressed.  The preview is okay for Jimmie Robinson fans but the main character looks sort of dumb to me. Image Firsts Compendium: NINE first issues for 5.99?  Yeah, I can sell that. Reyn #2: No info on #1 so placeholder order. Avengers Quicksilver TP: For $35?  Seriously?  Did New York legalize pot?  Well, Florida hasn’t so no orders here. Darth Vader #1: No reason this shouldn’t sell just like Star Wars.  Incentives are pretty easy on this one. Guardians of the Galaxy Team-Up: The Gallery was pretty harsh on this one.  Guardians 3000 is a declining lox and team-up books tend to flounder as soon as the A-List teams have come and gone.  So they all expect it to hit the peak early and fall from...

Goon Once Upon a Hard Time: I’d love to see this sell better than it will but it won’t. Ordering like Goon Occasion of Revenge sold. Prometheus One-Shot: Treat is like the next issue in the series. Rat God: Richard Corben so that means that loyal base of fans who loves his hairless nude people will show up with their 4 bucks. Not much else on this one. Harley Variants: These should have some popularity but even Harley fans, whose wallets are already stretched thin, will start balking at these for just the cover. This week, the first, will get more play than the later weeks. Fans of the particular series will likely want the regular cover. Thinking 25% Harley. D4ve: No love for this one. I don’t expect any sales either. Garbage Pail Kids Love Stinks: The comic is sort of sitting there. I don’t think we need 2 comics to be sitting there. Everyone thinks this little trek down memory dump is a fun thing but not many folks seem to want to put down the money for it. What you sold on the Puketacular. Joe Frankenstein: The gallery is feeling a bit peckish this week and not giving a lot of love to anything. This book continues the lack-of-love train. 10 gets returnability but that’s a high mark for a lot of stores on non-Image indy. Nameless: Not a lot to go on here except Morrison’s name. So let’s go with that – pull for Multiversity and Annihilation. Postal: Meh. Looks a bit like Revival but that may be the cover. The other covers are… blank....

Aquaman Flash Variant: This is starting to look like that obnoxious drunk guy who photobombs pictures and everyone is just waiting for him to pass out. Speaking of passing… Batman B&W Statue by Mignola: I always thought this was one of the less attractive statues in this line but there’s demand for everything Mignola. Worth a few. Batwing TP: If anyone had asked me to bet that Batwing would ever see a 5th TP I would have bet the farm, store, dog, and car that it would be dead in 12 issues. Anyone want to bet if I’ll be ordering this? You’d lose. Catwoman: Batman appears on the cover and though he’s never far from Selina, this one’s about the confrontation. Expect a 15-25% bump. DC Animated Batman Vs Robin Ninja Talon AF: 8ish words, which is at least 8 times the number of people who will be looking for this. Zero is good. DC Comics Cover Girl Harley: I always approach these with the question “How many will I have to order so that I’m not out by this time next year?” With Harley, despite the proliferation of items, this will sell well. DC Comics Icons Shazam: Really nice piece but I always wonder how many fans there are for secondary characters and how many of them have an extra Ben Franklin haunting their wallet. DC Comics JL Starter Poker Set: A bit pricey for the contents but this is pretty cool. Without consulting the all-knowing Google, I’m thinking that a ‘starter’ set indicates that there will be a more complete poker chips set. Getting a few. DC...
