King Conan Wolves Beyond the Border: Should do regular Conan numbers. Nothing incredible here as it’s more of a known franchise that will sell to the same fanbase. Batman Europa: Nope. Subs only until we see where this goes without Jim Lee attached. Injustice Annual #1: Should sell like the previous series. Superman Annual: Looks cool for Superman and Vandal Savage fans but it also looks out of regular continuity. Then again, a good origin story always does well, especially in a light comic week without a lot of other options. Superman numbers. Superman Wonder Woman Annual: Old news and nothing fans haven’t seen. Throw on the 4.99 price tag and this one loses its luster pretty quickly. 80% of Supes WW. Swamp Thing Vol 7: We sold zero of Vol 6 so that’s a non-starter for any order over zero. Rocketeer at War: First new Rocketeer since May 2013 so that data is pretty aged. Sold pretty well then – mid-tier IDW but now features an entirely different creative team and a fanbase containing fewer people who remember the Dave Stevens era fondly. Middle but more toward the lower end of the middle of the spectrum. Venus: http://io9.com/the-martian-had-it-easy-compared-to-the-shipwrecked-sci-1729394624 looks like it could be the cover but we’ll never know by looking at FOC. Space opera that might appeal to Copperhead fans. Match Cognetic #1 and get 10% off. Dr. Mirage Second Lives: If there was one company I wish I could sell better it would be Boom. And then Valiant. Unfortunately, fans don’t seem enamored by Valiant. Maybe the Rai movie will change that. But this will be...

Jaded? Okay, we’ll go with that. Yeah, I’m jaded. I have tried not to editorialize too often but the industry is at a breaking point. It’s all my opinion so take it for what it’s worth. I spent a good amount of time analyzing numbers in the past few weeks as our COG rose to more than 80% in one store and far too high in the rest for October. I pulled a few conclusions from the avalanche of titles. If they apply to you / your store, use them as you see fit. If they don’t, all good. Marvel is overproducing. This is not news or a revelation or a refutable fact. Worse, there’s an ugly underbelly to it to compound the problem. They’re forcing issues out in 3 week rotation so that we don’t get to see how #2 does before ordering #3, or whatever the previous/next combination in, thereby undermining FOC and sticking us with too many unsold books on poor titles. Not even Marvel in their hubris could possibly believe that all their books will be winners. There seems to be a green light given based solely to increase volume, ignoring market needs or the viability of a book. #1 WILL sell 20k units regardless of what it is so long as it has the Marvel logo. Marvel makes money. Marvel makes their numbers. We get the bill for unsold / unsellable titles. The industry simply cannot survive losing 25% of stores that can be crushed overnight by this type of practice. Marvel seem to be run solely on today’s numbers; tomorrow be damned. September...

Alabaster: Looks like a nice little horror tale. Check out the preview here.   http://www.bleedingcool.com/2015/08/25/first-look-at-dark-horses-alabaster-the-good-the-bad-and-the-bird-drawn-by-daniel-warren-johnson/ Probably will sell the same as most DH titles, which puts in in the low Image range. 10 copies gets you an additional 10%. Massive Ninth Wave: Fans who stuck with the series should jump back on with this one. Add a few for the #1. Batman TMNT: Every Turtles fan will want this and a lot of Batman fans will jump on at least the first issue out of curiosity. Thinking about 50% of Batman. DC Presents Darkseid War: This is a handful of Kirby reprints with nothing much to do with the Darkseid War. As much as I respect Jack Kirby for his work in creating almost everything comics his work is not going to appeal to today’s audience. One is probably one too many. Detective Comics: Part 3 of Robin War. There sure are a lot of wars in the DCU. Order up a bit to accommodate the cross-over buyers. Gotham Academy and Red Hood: Robin War tie-ins but not a cross-over. 20% increase on a good day. Harley Variant: This will have high demand for the Timm cover but it’s mired in the nonsense of the opaque bags. This one will likely outsell the others so order up a bit. Justice League: Are they really shipping 2 issues on one day? Strangely enough it probably wouldn’t matter much with this title. DC would likely want its New 52 launch title hitting #50 along with the rest of the survivors. JLofA: This is bizarre as JLofA was supposedly in the can for...

Goon Plush: Very fun item. Not sure Goon fans will drop 19.99 on it but it is very cool. Mystery Girl: Looks neat. Not sure we’ll be able to attract an audience without hand-selling it but it looks like it would appeal to the iZombie crowd. Batman: The Ross cover should be pretty amazing but alas it’s under a black bag with Harley on it. How awful are the DC stands going to look with 30 black bags on it with Harley on the front? Pretty awful. Dark Knight III: Sorry DC but taking a flyer on #1 is enough risk. 60% Batman orders until I see how #1 sells. Revisit then. Grayson: Part 2 of Robin War. Order in numbers equal the highest-selling Bat-title outside Batman or Dark Knight plus 20%. Batman family cross-overs do well and the Court of Owls will spur sales. Robin War: Match to the number you’re putting in for Grayson. Sheriff of Babylon: Looks okay but not sure there’s a demand for this. Telos: #2 is late. I don’t have any faith that #3 will have any fans left. Unfollow: Mediocre to poor sales on #1. This will have a hard time going much past #8. IDW Holiday Specials: Not sure why these are all being FOCed at the same time as they ship over several weeks. Won’t really matter as most will sell pretty much the same as the regular issue minus 10-20%. Brooklyn Animal Control: At 7.99 this won’t get a lot of looks. Werewolf crowd might peek inside. Haunted Horror Pre-Code Coloring Book: I don’t get the coloring book thing...

Itty Bitty Hellboy: I hate this. A lot. Nothing like a kids book with HELLboy on it. And no, it hasn’t appealed to Hellboy fans in the past. Few. Art Ops: Sales on #1 ranged from downright miserable to meh. Not a lot to recommend ordering #2 above 60% of #1 actual sales. Batman Arkham Knight Robin Special: Looking at the Batman Arkham Knight Annual. Should do about the same. Batman Harley & Ivy Deluxe Edition: This has been out of print for a while but the need for a HC will likely be lost on Harley fans. DC Comics Designer Ser Lee Bermejo: These don’t look a lot like Lee’s work but they are iconic looking. DC Comics Icons Deadshot Statue: Nice statue for the few fans out there who will spend this kind of money. DC Comics Super Villains Joker: Nice bust. Gallery isn’t as generous as I on this one. Lot of Joker items out there. DC Presents Robin War 100 Page Spectacular: Not a lot of call for this and the stories aren’t part of the arc but stories about one Robin beating on another Robin. Save 7.99 and sell out. Deathstroke: Harley on the cover should spur more sales. +25% Black Bag variants: I thought these were a dumb idea when I heard how DC was doing them and now that I have to order them I think it’s a completely moronic idea. Still debating on whether to open these and sell them as wanted or to keep them bagged. Or just order the regular cover and not get stuck with them. I believe...
