You’re getting this early as by the time I normally post this on Monday I’ll be floating around the Caribbean on a week-long journey through paradise. That being said, these notes are based on thoughts on the series’ being offered and not on inventory numbers that I won’t see due to the aforementioned paradise thing. If you haven’t signed up for the In-Store Convention Kick-Off it’s not too late. Contact your Diamond rep. Live broadcast 8-hour show. www.conventionkickoff.com. There are more than 300 stores signed up and some cool guests in the works to be announced soon! Coliseum of Comics celebrates our 33rd anniversary February 1st! 1983 seems like a date akin to ancient history at this point. Hellboy BPRD: I’m thinking this should do better than the Witch Tree Rawhead one-shot but not by a lot. Cyborg TP: The comic is bombing so is anyone waiting for this trade? Neal Adams covers: I’m really starting to like these. Still don’t think most of today’s customers remember Neal Adams. Justice League of America Neal Adams Var: Best cover yet. This will sell a lot. Trades: I’m seeing a lot of “maybe” trades; maybe it will sell if the right person happens to come in but maybe I’ll celebrate its 10th birthday in the store before writing it off. Caution. Empire Uprising: 3 issues on the same day? Order 10 and it’s returnable. One mitigates the other. Wizards & Robots: I would say skip this entirely except that Superbowl sensation Will.I.Am is the writer. We’ve seen little traction with such books in the past but a handful of people are...

2016 In-Store Convention Kick-Off: We did an 8-hour live broadcast last year with a test group of stores and the major publishers and this year we’re opening the flood gates and inviting in all brick & mortar stores to participate. We just added Skottie Young to the line-up of guests who will be appearing “live” with more guests to be announced in the coming weeks. Sign-up is on the FOC this week along with 4 exclusive items – 3 comics and one Star Wars bank. Quantities are open for order but allocations may occur. Power Man & Iron Fist #1 Mike McCone cover R4-G9 Figural Bank Jonesy #1 Arkham Knight Batgirl Harley #1 All you need is an Internet connection and a monitor to show the live event to your customers. More details available at www.conventionkickoff.com Game of Thrones Egg Bookends: These are kinda cool but realistically it’s a pretty limited market. Still a neat item. Tomb Raider: Beautiful cover and Tomb Raider fans will jump on this. The heydays for TR is gone but there’s still some money to be made, just not in large quantities. Batman TMNT: Make sure you have these in stock. Great-selling book! Coloring DC Batman Mad Love: I still don’t get it. Get one or two and see if anyone cares. JL 3001 TP: Will anyone miss this if you opt to put that cash in your pocket? JL Darkseid War Special: Check out the last Darkseid War specials and order about the same or a bit higher for the JL tie-in. Superman the Golden Age TP: Neat book but the current crop...

Something new this year and I can’t blame Diamond for doing it. All Gold books will be in bundles of 25. Makes sense and saves counting 800 single copies by hand. These should be bundles of 27 or 29 as the top and bottom copies will likely be toast. Archie: A. I’ll forgive that this is a reprint rather than a new story since so many people won’t have been exposed to it. Price is okay. Bongo Comics Free For All: A. The usual fun stuff from Bongo. Price is right. Boom! Summer Blast: A. 48 pages for a quarter featuring a lot of the books that have made Boom a contender in the last year. Dark Horse: B: Serenity is a great property and will drag in fans of the series who might not shop regularly. I’m only giving this a B because they’re hitting us for an extra 3 cents a copy. DC: 26 cents? Maybe they’ll reduce it for FOC to a quarter. Withholding grade until we find out what it is. Bob’s Burgers: B. Fun property that has a lot of fans. No idea if this is all new or reprints. Cost gets it the B. Camp Midnight: A & D. I give it an A for spotlighting something like Camp Midnight, which looks like it could grab some fans and have an appeal similar to Lumberjanes. The D is because every year Image refuses to spotlight some of their great-selling series’ in lieu of something with lesser appeal. Again, not dissing Camp Midnight but it’s not Saga, East of West, of some of the...

King’s Road: Not a lot of excitement here. Subs. Batman 49: Bruce Wayne is back. The Neal Adams cover should be amazing on this. Order up a bit. Batman Arkham Knights: Batgirl and Harley Quinn: How many of these can’t you sell? Pull for Harley and Batgirl fans and none should reject it. Batman TMNT: Sales are strong on this one. If you sold out of #2 already, order up. Dark & Bloody: Doesn’t sound bad, just not sure where to hang this one. Not a lot of cross-pull except to pull it for those who have jumped on some of the recent Vertigo stuff. Not a large audience either way. Dark Knight Returns The Last Crusade: I begged DC to do Dark Knight III in prestige format to match the original. Not sure doing a one-off is the answer to that but this should do very well. I see this as one of those books that won’t sell what we think it will when it hits but will be going for $30 this time next year. Thinking 80% of DKIII #2. Legend of Wonder Woman: No sales on #1 yet so let’s give this a subs-only placeholder. IDW: Wynonna Erp: Did you know this is going to be a TV series? I had no idea. FOCed last week but take a second look. IDW has an overprint in the numbers but don’t count on them lasting if the series hits. Insufferable on the Road: Same as it ever was. Middle-of-the-road for On the Road. Deadpool #7: NINE NINETY-NINE price tag! When Deadpool 27 came out in April 2014...

Neal Adam’s Blood: Not impressed and since when you go to Nealadams.com per the FOC info and can’t find anything on it I’m not sure Neal is impressed with it either. In 1978 this would have been a MUST HAVE book for most comic fans. Today I’m not sure most comic fans even know who Adams is. Neal Adams Cover variants: Great work but it doesn’t look like any of them have anything to do with the story. B&W sketch covers are a bit old. Get a few for the guys with gray hair. Black Canary TP: The current series is failing by leaps and bounds. Not sure we need a collection of this collecting dust. Coloring DC TP: Money grab but at least it’s of material people may want. Not convinced anyone will want to pay $15 for a coloring book. Harley’s Little Black Book: Should drop back to regular Harley numbers after the #1 bump. Superman The Coming of the Supermen: Think about Batman Odyssey from a few years back. It sold nothing like Batman. As much as I love Adams’ art, the current crop of fans doesn’t remember the glory days. So this will be just another Superman mini-series with nice art (but oh-so nice covers!). Looking at Lois & Clark and the rest of the Superman crop for numbers. Telos: Every book is someone’s favorite… except this one. I’m amazed it’s still coming out since it’s the lowest selling of the DCU books by far. Trillium Special Edition: Someone lost a bet. Zero. Wynona Earp: Supernatural western coming back from the 90’s. Order 10 and...
