Having spent several days at ComicsPRO in never-sunny Portland… Rebirth Lots of talk about DC’s Rebirth this weekend at ComicsPRO. No doubt DC has had some issues but let’s call it what it is: a failure to excite the reading audience. Jim Lee and Dan Didio both placed their faith in Geoff Johns to not quite reboot the line but to refocus the characters and get them back to the core of what fans love about them. Geoff is back after having been instrumental in the success of the Arrow and Flash TV shows. Enter Rebirth. There will be an 80-page Rebirth issue for 2.99 that will reset the DC Universe. One of the first lines is “I love this world… but there’s something wrong.” Truer words have never been typed. So let’s look at our options. We believe like kids at the feet of a mall Santa that this is going to be great (at least very good) and will revitalize a failing line. In doing so, we promote the new direction and lets fans decide if the rebirth is a revitalization or more of the same. We figure the line is dead, don’t support it, tell fans it’s more of the same mediocre comic from the past few years, and accept that we’re in for another 3 years of declining sales. I can’t pay rent with declining sales. FIND SOMETHING you like and throw every ounce of support you can muster at it. 2.99 DC is making the line 2.99 and cutting the number of monthly books while making the best sellers bi-weekly. Let’s face it, good...

Aw Yeah Action Cat: Cute stuff that will sell a few copies to the all-ages crowd. Game of Thrones Figures: Hitting the bottom of the barrel. 2 out of 3 are dead and gone at this point. Game of Thrones Night’s King bust: I love GoT but with items like this I always ask “Who will buy this”. I don’t have a good answer for that on this one. Batman 50: Bruce is back (never should have left) and it’s #50. Look at Death in the Family numbers – I think we’ll see those heights again. Black Lightning TP: Someone lost a bet. Don’t you lose too. Zero is just fine. Catwoman 50: A VERY slight bump for the 50th. Not much else to see here. Dark & Bloody: #1 exceeded expectations and even though those expectations weren’t particularly high no sense cutting for #2. Gotham by Midnight TP: Looks like we sold 1 copy of Vol 1 in the first 4 weeks as a chain. No one will be looking for this. Legends of Tomorrow: a 7.99 money-grab that has the title of the new TV show but nothing to do with it or the character appearing in the show. At 7.99 fans will scrutinize what’s inside before buying. If this were titled C-List Character Showcase how many would you order? Superman 50: Polybagged cover is pretty sweet while the regular cover is pretty ‘eh’. 1/100 variant will be 50% fewer than the connecting Batman but when you add in the number of stores that don’t get nearly 100 copies of Superman the ratio will likely be closer...

Predator Life & Death: Last purely predator series finished just over a year ago. Still a strong franchise. Check numbers on Predator Fire & Stone #4 (NOV140055) and order up 25% from there for the #1. I confess: I have no idea what Teng was trying to do with that cover. 100 Bullets: Good time to remind everyone that there’s a lot of Trade Paperback creep. Check and see if you sold any of the previous relaunches on these. Pretty dead here. Absolute Preacher Vol 1: Available on Amazon for $107.76. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1/183-3367702-8404946?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=absolute+preacher Not all books are meant for our market. Subs only. DC Polybag Editions: These did remarkably well on the last round despite my thinking they wouldn’t. Keep in mind that nothing is as hot the second time around. Thinking 75% of what you sold on the polys last time. DC Comics Bombshells Power Girl and Superman(?): Laughably bad. Zero as more than that is a real leap of faith that there’s anyone hardcore enough to want this. DC Comics Cover Girls Raven: On the flip side, this is pretty sweet. Raven fans are hard-core and will want this. DC Comics Essentials Dark Knight Returns: Iconic cover that has to be in all stores when the movie hits. Stock up! DC Icons Deathstroke: Nice. DC Icons Lex Luthor: Not seeing a lot of interest. DC Superpets: Ace, maybe. Jumpa, uh, no. Detective: Great cover. Anniversary issues always sell up and this cover will add to sales. Fables HC: Check numbers on the previous 2. These seem to have run their course. FCBD: DC Super Hero Girls: Great book...
