Megacon Special – which is short for “It’s been a 100-hour workweek and it’s almost 1:00 in the morning so that this is getting out at all is pretty special”. The big story at Megacon was DC Rebirth #1.  As a chain we’re down to a few hundred copies with more than a 90% sell-through in 48 hours.  We could have sold at least 300 more at Megacon.  Seems that most stores sold out and the second print is eagerly awaited.  With this much anticipation it’s worth taking another look at the Rebirth books FOCed so far and getting in the AROs now.  Captain America also got some play but was behind Rebirth in every aspect. Action: We’re ordering blind but I’m thinking we need to hold the numbers pretty high until proven otherwise.  DCU Rebirth seems to have ignited a new interest. Aquaman: Lower tier but bumping that lower number a bit after seeing the excitement this week. Middleton cover is… uninspired?  We’ll go with that kindness. Detective: See Action. Flash: One of DC’s Magnificent Seven who everyone roots for and wants to like the book.  With the TV show giving the character some spotlight don’t go low on this. Justice League 52: Tying in with Titans Rebirth so worth pulling for Titan fans as well as the JL crowd looking to round out the collection. Wonder Woman: Order up.  No reason this shouldn’t find a whole new level. Action Man: Wow.  Looks like Charlton comics from the 70’s.  Forget it.  DC will be sucking all the air out of the room and Action Man isn’t part of...

Some days I marvel at the Internet.  We’re certainly proving that 10,000 monkeys with 10,000 keyboards will eventually produce the works of Shakespeare but so far we’re only up to Dr. Seuss’ Foot Book.  So DC is jumping into a bold new direction that will bring about some press and fanboy speculation, garnering renewed interest in Watchmen, and breathing new life into the universe.  Yeah, that’s worthy of all the negativity and DC-is-stupid posts.  You’d think half the bloggers were being personally executed on page 3 of DC Universe Rebirth.  Here’s my take: Find something to LOVE, not just like, but something you love about the new DC universe.  Hinge all your hopes and dreams on it.  Tell fans who love this stuff why you love it, too.  Amazon is now offering 2-hour delivery in Orlando and it’s coming to your town as well if it’s not already part of the landscape.  If fans can’t come in for something positive, then buying online is a great option.  Get excited.  Our collective livelihood depends on it. On to FOC… Weird Detective: Meh.  Not much to recommend or discourage. Cthulhu fans might take a look but it’s been a while since we saw anything comparative. DC #1s: Returnable.  Find the ceiling on DC’s dime and ignore the “I’m-not-giving-DC-a-loan” cult.  DC doesn’t need a loan but you need to find out how many of these you can sell. Batman #1: Double regular or more.  Batman will always sell.  Cover with Knight and Squire or cover with Joker and Harley?  Boy, that’s a tough decision. Daring Adventures of Supergirl: Not a great collection. ...

Prometheus Life & Death: Should sell to the same Aliens & Predator crowd.  The Dave Dorman cover is pretty sweet but not worth chasing if you can’t move the first 15 copies to open the ordering.  I hate these “incentive” levels as 95% of readers don’t seem to care much about which cover they get. Action Comics: I don’t blame DC for jumping back to the original numbering but there’s always going to be issues trying to get new readers to jump onto number 957 than #1.  Zircher is a pretty great artist and Jurgens tells okay stories with a love for Superman that should come across.  This will be the weaker link of the relaunch so thinking 4-5 times where Action is now.  I can’t think of a single reason why the covers for your largest sales effort in 5 years doesn’t have covers available for FOC. Aquaman Rebirth: Minimum order that should have been set last week.  Even your minimu should rival Batman numbers on these early issues. Dark Knight Returns The Last Crusade: DKIII has kept up the sales pace so no reason to cut this from the original FOC unless JRJR’s art has gotten worse, which becomes a greater possibility every time pencil touches paper. Detective 934: Order in Batnumbers and see where it falls.  One of the better covers though the variant is looking a bit like the rest of the big D variants. Flash Rebirth: Flash fans are tenacious so every iteration of Flash retains its core.  No doubt they’ll follow here but this is also a chance to pick up TV fans...

Dark Horse Day Bundle: I hate paying for promo items but sometimes I do.  This is one of those cases.  Highlighting some decent projects.  Don’t order this unless you have the trades this supports in stock to pay for the promotion. If you don’t have these trades, why not? Batman Animates Setries Batwing: We sold  surprising number of batmobiles so this should be a nice companion piece. Batman B&W Miller Joker: This one will sell out. If you sell Joker or have Miller fans, this one has legs. Batman by Snyder & Capulo Box Set: Take $9 off the retail price and then take your discount on top of that AND we’ll throw in a lovely slipcase.  Even if you throw out the slipcase you can sell the trades for a much better discount.  Order up. Batman Europa Director’s Cut: Always a handful of fans for these.  Don’t go too crazy. Batman Rebirth: Order a lot.  Batman X 2 and take the returns.  It’s bad business to assign malice to DC as taking a loan in these cases as you get the chance to sell whatever you can and send the rest back at no added cost other than the shipping and stripping labor.  No excuses for selling out of this.  The variant cover sort of sucks. Batman TMNT HC: Not much to say here except get some.  Get a bunch of some because they will sell for a long time – or until the soft cover comes out. Bombshell Busts: The bust have been doing ‘eh’ for quite some time but this is a new corner heard from...

Aliens Defiance: About what we expected but that’s no surprise as Alien fans buy Aliens.  They’ll almost all be back for #2 so holding the numbers. Lobster Johnson: Looking at LJ: Forgotten Man one-shot.  Not much beyond that. Adventures of Supergirl: No data on #1.  Placeholder. Batman Arkham Killer Croc: Strictly a movie grab book.  Not sure there’re enough comic readers looking for 19.99 worth of Killer Croc stories. Justice League 50: Despite the lateness of this book and the price it will still sell at the same level.  JRJR cover is, as expected, about as awful as they come. Scooby Apocalypse: I know, I’m crazy, but I see this pulling a Power Rangers.  If you sell 6 copies of Scooby now then you’ll likely sell 50 of this as curiosity will be the selling point.  Ordering up and listening for the second printing announcement.  We’ll be looking at the Power Rangers free-fall to order the follow-up issues. Superman 52: Superman is dead prior to DC Universe Rebirth #1 and this is the conclusion of Final Days so it stands to reason that this is likely the death issue.  In 1992 we had lines outside the door when Superman died.  I don’t expect this to follow in that lightning trail but if the media picks it up (i.e. if it’s in Bernie, Hillary, or The Donald’s hands) it might make the news.  Lot of things taking up the headlines during such a contentious election season so it’s doubtful we’ll see that level of media interest.  Still, order up.  A lot. Disney Magic Kingdom Comics: Looking at IDW’s Disney offerings...
