FOC 10.31.16

Hellboy & BPRD: You should have numbers on this by now.  1-2 issues at a time. 52 TP Vol 2: A celebration of the biggest non-series that ever was… except maybe Countdown.  No one will miss this. Batgirl: No longer returnable.  Order carefully but don’t kill sales by under-ordering. Metal Men TP: I was always a fan of the Metal Men.  Unfortunately, no one else seemed to be.  At 14.99 the price is right but not convinced anyone will be moved to buy this. Metamorpho TP: Same here except I’m sure no one will be moved to buy this. New Talent Showcase: Don’t we have this every week from Image or some of the other indies and not for 7.99?  I’m disappointed that with all this new talent they had to put a clunky (bad) cover on it from veteran Klaus Janson.  Few to none.  It’s a lox, folks.  Sure, this could be the next Jim Lee’s first art or the next Scott Snyder’s first story but it’s a longshot that this will be worth more than cover, or even cover, for a long time. Scooby Doo Team Up: Space Ghost will grab a few extra copies.  Show it to Future Quest fans. Super Powers: Baltazar’s books sell well to the all-ages audience and this shouldn’t be an exception.  Look at Tiny Titans if you still have the numbers and go from there. Vigilante Southland: Low sales but not unexpected.  Should be subs only by #3. MASK: No love from the Gallery.  MASK was always pretty low on the scale of what’s cool so the nostalgia factor doesn’t have...

Ether: Very mixed reviews on this.  It’s returnable with 10 copies and in most stores that’s likely a very high end but that’s where we’re going on this one. Spell on Wheels: First issue did well with conservative numbers.  Going 75% of what sold. Batman Director’s Cut: Kinda late for this but a few people like these so, logically, a few. Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye: Doom Patrol seemed to soak up all the Young Animals Love and even that evaporated significantly with #2.  Going 10% more than we’ve sold so far.  Returnable. He Man Thundercats: #1 sold exceptionally well but we inevitably see a quick attrition on these sorts of titles.  Going 90% as we’re still looking for the ceiling but pretty sure it’s not significantly more than what we’ve sold. Martian Manhunter TP: No one will be asking for this. Ever.  Zero is fine. Micronauts: If you got any traction with Revolution there might be a bit of new interest here but likely not 6 covers of interest.  Match #6 orders and it’s returnable so go for it. Star Trek Boldly Go: Bit better than the ongoing but a #1 will do that.  Likely will follow sales of the previous series. Wynonna Earp: Despite some success with the TV series (renewed for a shorter 2nd season) the comic sales were lacking on the first series past the first issue.  I don’t see a lot of new interest coming this way. Image is offering a lot of second prints this week.  Check numbers on the current issue being ordered and fill the gaps between where you are...

Chimichanga: Odd book.  Stores either sold nothing or sold out.  Hand sell. Game of Thrones Son of Harpy Figure: We can stick a fork in this series, it’s hit the bottom of the barrel. DC: We’re now in the long hot summer of waiting to see how sales settle now that we’re past the initial excitement of Rebirth.  Still seeing some markedly increased sales across the board and pretty pleased with where they’re settling initially.  Lot of hope but not a lot of commentary.  Don’t kill sales by under-ordering at this point but don’t get stuck either – most are out of the returnability phase. Doom Patrol: Dropped to about 35% of first week sales on #1.  Came out strong but a lot of #1 buyers didn’t come back for #2.  Ordering #3 how #2 sold plus some as it’s likely to have later sales and it’s returnable. Firestorm TP: No one needs a Firestorm TP.  Great visual character that managed hundreds of appearances with no significant stories. Lost Boys: We didn’t go overboard on #1 and it sold out in several stores.  I expect to sell about 75% of #2 as we did on #1. Mother Panic: It’s returnable so looking at Doom Patrol numbers. Batman TMNT Adventures: Looking at the previous series. Variant cover B by Eastman is most likely to bring in fans of the previous series. 50% Returnable with 25 copies so order up. Comic Book History of Comics: I see this as a waiting-for-the-trade book.  Get a few and at 10 it’s returnable.  Awful subscription variant cover. Donald Quest: Pull for Donald Duck. Yakuza...

Batman Animated Expressions Figure: Neat figure but too pricy. Catwoman Election Night: No love for this from the gallery and the word “bizarre” was used when describing it. With everyone about fed up with the election I don’t see a lot of folks jumping at the chance to drop 4.99 on an election special.  Look at Catwoman before Rebirth.  About 75% of that plus copies for your few Prez fans. Cyborg TP: With the dismal sales on the series this is completely unnecessary. DC Statues: Jessie Quick will sell to those completing the series.  Hawkgirl is pretty nice but it will sell like Hawkgirl.  Starfire looks pretty sweet and should find its fans. DC Super Pets: Batcow?  Dumb idea.  Harley’s pets?  Not seeing a lot of Harley fans that devoted.  You probably know if you have this market. Death of Hawkman: Not getting the sales on this that I was hoping.  Sad state of affairs for the winged wonder. Ordering like #1 sold. Harley Quinn by Jim Lee: Should get better traction than the last few because of Lee’s name. Midnighter & Apollo: About the same as the previous Midnighter series, which is nothing to celebrate.  #2 won’t improve in sales.  80% of what sold on #1. Shade the Changing Girl: 35-50% of Doom Patrol out of the gate.  It’s returnable so ordering sales on #1 seems smart. Superman: Looks like a preview of things to come in Super Sons.  Worth a few extras. AD After Death: Snyder & Lemire have a lot of fans and Image readers and speculators alike love a #1 by such creators.  But the...

Light week with only 270ish titles as opposed to the north of 320 of late. Serenity: Fans are still strong on this and I expect it to sell out in too many stores.  This should be your highest-ordered Dark Horse book this year and will likely have a longer sales tail than any other DH title.  Not having some sort of return incentive on this one was a missed opportunity.  Order up. Batman Rebirth: Sold between 40 & 60% of Batman on #1 depending on the store.  No reason this won’t move down a bit but it’s returnable so don’t get caught short. Black Canary TP Vol 2: Probably not many people looking for this.  Zero is good if you didn’t move any Vol 1. Blue Beetle: We have our second loser as we’ve sold less than 50% of #1.  Considering it’s Blue Beetle this could be a very strong number but I don’t expect it to last. Designer Harleys: I was more confident on the first go-round but now I’m thinking a bit more conservative.  Still should do okay and be here for Christmas but there’s still a lot of Harley stuff out there and sales are dropping. Frostbite: Did okay though nothing crazy and will likely finish as a subs only mini-series. Flash: Throwback to Flash 123 and bringing both Wally’s firmly(?) into the new DC. Worth a slight bump.  The variant on this is pretty useless. Teen Titans: Rebirth did okay.  Solid debut. Returnable so don’t get caught short. Vigilante: 5 total subs as a chain does not bode well for a new DC.  Low or...
