Batman the Drowned: “The Metal Checklist is gold” about sums this up. Looking at Forge & Casting for guidance. Batman Day books: You’ll get the response you promote on this. Order Batman+ numbers and make it an event. DC Metal: DC is printing money and selling it to us at half. Hold steady or order up if you sold out. Nightwing: Metal and Gotham Resistance tie-in/cross-over. This will be in a second print before Friday when it comes out.  Order to cover Titans subs as well as the Metal-Heads who will want to check out all aspects of Metal. 2-3X regular Nightwing numbers. Wonder Woman Conan: This won’t have the sales of a Wonder Woman monthly. Conan fans are a fraction of WW fans but that’s likely the target audience. Looking at the WW ’77 books for some guidance. GI Joe First Strike: These IDW universe-spanning cross-over events seem to sell to a subset of readers of each series and not at the levels of a lot of the core titles. Looking at GI numbers for the first issue.  Is this a one shot? Doesn’t really matter. Half Past Danger II: HPD 1 didn’t do very well. Might appeal to Rocketeer fans (if you can still find them) or some of the Dynamite readers. 10 makes it returnable though that’s just a cash-flow sink for most stores on this book. Angelic: Not a lot of love for this one from the Gallery.  Might be fun but doesn’t look like it’s going to be a blockbuster. Low to medium. Gasolina: Gallery wasn’t impressed with the preview but thinks it will...

Lenticular Special

Lenticular Special We’re going all-in. I know, it’s not for everyone but no doubt fans WANT these books to be good and even if they are inevitably just the “next issue” in a long line of poor editorial and writing choices, people will give them a look.  Throw in the Lenticular covers and it’s a winning deal. No argument from me on those opting out but if you’re opting in, here’s the special edition. So let’s talk about the Lenticulars… We’re setting a minimum on how many we need for the inevitable want-one-of-each lenticular buyers. We’ll use that as a base on a bunch of titles. We’re also skipping or putting in 1-2 on a lot of the variants as no one will care about a Ron Lim variant that’s not lenticular. Amazing Spider-Man: Alex Ross lenticular Spider-Man and the return of not-Tony-Stark-wannabe Spider-Man. I can sell this all day every day for the next 10 years. Don’t go low.  Yes, this will outsell the regular issue by multiples. Falcon: The movies made the Falcon cool though I have no faith in Marvel publishing to do the same. 2-3X the minimum. Iron Man: Great cover… on the regular issue.  The lenticular is Iron Heart, who sells so-so. But fans want Tony Starke back and this starts that process.  I just hope those same fans have a tolerance for long, (overly) drawn-out stories that will likely take us all 8 issues to #600. Bendis isn’t the powerhouse he once was but yeah, this one will sell. Spirits of Vengeance: This has the benefit of being a 1st week book and...

Huge FOC week with 350+ items though far too much of that is taken up with nonsense variants that 99% of the comic-buying universe won’t care about. Birds of Prey: Great variant cover. Worth a few extras. Demon TP: Kirby is getting a lot of attention lately and though it hasn’t translated into booming sales on the 4.99 one-offs, this could find an audience albeit a small one. Mister Miracle: If you sold out of #1 (you did) order up on #2 to find the ceiling. Fill the gap with 2nd prints of #1. New Superman: Suicide Squad with a Harley cover. Red Hood: All-new Bizarro debuts. Should attract some attention.  The variant cover will sell some extra copies. This variant is currently under Scooby Apocalypse instead of Red Hood on Diamond’s FOC page. Supergirl 13: Another great Stanley Lau cover on the variant. 95% of sub customers will want the variant over the regular so order up on the variant. Teen Titans: Metal Tie-in.  This will be a big issue as it not only ties-in with Metal but is also part one of Gotham Resistance, which will (apparently) run through several books. As Metal has outsold Teen Titans by a wide margin, anything less than double will leave you short. The variant cover is a complete non-factor. Duck Tales: New TV series so that should add a few sales but nothing crazy. Looking at Scrooge for direction. Genius Cartel: Low-ish sales. Not taking chances on a mini-series. Ghost Station: Poor sales on #1. Subs only through the end. Realm: Looks cool but the Gallery isn’t thrilled about it....

FOC 08.14.17

Batman: Tom King has been pushing sales higher though the covers on this one are pretty lackluster.  Might be a 5-10% drop. Batman the Dawnbreaker: I don’t see this slowing down and Fabok knocked it out of the part with this cover. Forge numbers. Bombshells United: As  good a jumping off point as a jumping on point. 120% of Bombshells. Dastardly & Muttley: Not seeing the allure here and I don’t think Ennis’ name will make a difference.  75% of Wacky Racers. Green Arrow: The team-up GA fans have been waiting for. Be bold – pull for Hal Jordan. Cover B is the more sellable cover. Green Lantern Kyle Rayner: Kyle’s fans aren’t exactly legion but he has some, just unlikely any of them will drop $30 for material that’s relatively inexpensive to own in original format. I see these as pricing themselves out of sales and us becoming showrooms for Amazon, which is selling it for $16.49. Skip. https://www.amazon.com/Green-Lantern-Kyle-Rayner-Vol/dp/1401276873/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1502661168&sr=8-1&keywords=kyle+rayner Harley Quinn: Love the variant cover. It won’t be a Lau Supergirl, but it’s worth a few extras. Harley 25th Anniversary: The Jim Lee cover will be hard for fans to pass up, even though the other covers are pretty cool. Should sell about the same as a regular Harley. Justice League Their Greatest Triumphs: At 9.99 with a Jim Lee cover this is a nice book for potential JLA fans.  Worth stocking some and seeing if you need to reorder as the movie comes closer. Samurai Jack: Fans always seem excited to see this back on the stands… for about 2 issues and then it falls apart. 10...
